Sheriff Chris Nanos was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He attended the University of Texas – El Paso, majoring in Criminal Justice/Public Administration and began his law enforcement career in 1976 with the El Paso Police Department.
In 1984, joined the Pima County Sheriff’s Department as a corrections officer, and soon promoted to deputy and began the upward trajectory in his career. In 2015, he was appointed Chief Deputy and later that year he was appointed by the Pima County Board of Supervisors as the 33rd Sheriff of Pima County. He was victoriously elected in 2020, and took the oath of office on January 1, 2021, where he was sworn in as the 35th Sheriff of Pima County.
In his first term, he has instituted several initiatives of transparency, community policing, and regionalized efforts.
